India’s famous monument Taj Mahal has shut down to avoid the coronavirus from spreading, officials say.
The ministry of culture said tens of thousands visit the “monument of love” every day, and closing it down was “imperative.”
The Indian government declared on Tuesday that it has also shut down all monuments and museums operated by India’s Archaeological Survey across the country to keep people safe.
Minister of Culture Prahlad Patel said that all 143 monuments and museums would remain closed until March 31 and that decision would be reviewed after the shutdown time.
